She studied philosophy at the University of Ioannina (1987), social anthropology at the University of the Aegean (1995), and holds a Ph.D. in social anthropology from London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London (2001). She is teaching social anthropology at the University of the Aegean since 2001, is member of the steering committee of the MA Program Women and Gender: Anthropological and Historical Approaches, and member of the Laboratory of Studies on Family and Kinship and the Laboratory of Ethnography. She belongs to the professional organizations European Association of Social Anthropologists, American Association of Anthropologists, Modern Greek Studies Association, International Association for Southeast European Anthropology and is member of the international scientific network EastBordNet. Her research interests focus on anthropology of kinship, anthropology of gender and sexuality, queer theory, anthropology of science, and Greek ethnography. She has conducted extensive fieldwork on women’s same-sex sexuality in Greece, the visibility of same-sex desires, same-sex families, motherhood and new forms of parenthood, the summer lesbian community in Eresos and the history of the lesbian movement. She has also published extensively on kinship theory, gender epistemology and methodology, politics of sexuality and conceptualizations of citizenship. Her current research, which was partially sponsored by the Research Council University of the Aegean, focuses on assisted reproduction, shifting conceptualizations of kinship and science, and the distribution of authoritative knowledge in the context of emerging social and technological transformations Selected Publications Forthcoming Kantsa, Venetia (ed.)
