Biography
Christodoulos Bellas is a first class honours
graduate in Economics from the University of
Athens. He did his M.Sc. in Economics at the
London School of Economics and Political
Science, University of London and awarded his
PhD degree from Queen Mary College, University
of London. His thesis title is “The trade-off
between economic growth and rural welfare. A
retrospective social-cost benefit analysis of
irrigation projects in Greece”. His research
interests include development economics,
theoretical and applied welfare economics,
economics of migration and gender, environmental
economics, and the morphology of the Greece
corporate and household sectors. His
publications comprise two books on the trends of
the corporate sector in Greece, refereed
articles on environmental economics, and
nationwide sampling surveys on developments in
the Greek corporate and household sectors. He
has been in charge of 20 research projects
undertaken by the University of the Aegean. The
latest is a multi-disciplinary project on
domestic labour of non-EU migrant workers and is
jointly financed by the European Integration
Fund and the Greek government.

2012.
Project coordinator in “Research for the
investigation of the profile of third country
nationals living in Greece legally and working
as domestic workers and a comparative study of
models of institutional management in E.U.
member- states”.
It was part of Action 2.2./2010 of the
European Integration Fund for Third Country
Nationals and was conducted under the Priority
2: “Development of indicators and methodologies
designed for the evaluation of progress, the
adaptation of policies and measures as well as
the facilitation of the coordination of
comparative learning” financed by the European
Integration Fund and the Greek Government. The
leading partner was the University of the Aegean
(School of Social Sciences, Department of Social
Anthropology and History and Department of
Sociology), joined by TNS-ICAP, a public surveys
company, and the Cultural House of Albanian
Immigrants in Greece, a non-profit organization.
2009. Consultant, representing the University of
the Aegean in “Greek Commerce 2007-2010”, a joint project with
the Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE) and
ICAP, an economic consultant,
concerning the morphology and prospects of Greek
commercial firms.
2006-2007.
Consultant, representing the University of the
Aegean in “A Survey on the competitiveness of
the Greek economy”, a joint project with ICAP
leading to the conduct and analysis of a survey
commissioned by the National Council of
Competitiveness and Development.
2003. Consultant, representing the University of
the Aegean in “A Report on the debt and wealth
of Greek households”, a joint project of the
University of the Aegean and ICAP leading to the
analysis of the results of a field survey
commissioned by the Bank of Greece.
